"In this book, the author " recounts the stirring tale of the small town campaign by Dalgety and Orbost to restore water to the legendary river - a lopsided battle waged against powerful commercial interests and governments that did not want to know. Farmers, city dwellers, bureaucrats and politicians were caught up in the dramatic events that captures the imagination of the Australian people and climaxed with a government fighting for its life, and a historic political deal." Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. GEOLOGY VINTAGE THE FOOTPRINTS OF THE CREATOR BY HUGH MILLER 1854. Please find a scarce old book about geology and the discussion of evolution and immortality and its implications. This book is titled: The Foot-Prints of the Creator: or The Asterolepis of Stromness by Hugh Miller. This small hard cover book, in blind-stamped brown paper boards (5 ¼ x 7 ¾ inches, 337 pages plus about 25 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by Gould and Lincoln of Boston dated 1854. This volume is from the Third London Edition. There is a tissue-guarded engraving of the Author with a facsimile signature below as the Frontispiece. In addition, there are 58 wood-cuts listed as illustrations for this volume. The book also includes a Memoir about the Author of some 25 pages written by Louis Agassiz (the then Professor of Zoology/Geology at Harvard). Condition: This book is in very good condition, remarkable for its age and general make-up. The brown papered boards are still almost entirely intact with some bumping to the corners and to the top of the spine. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages are generally clean albeit not without some toning and specks of soiling. There are also a few instances of tide lines where water apparently touched the book, thankfully without affecting the legibility or even the overall appearance of the text. There is some light foxing to the endpapers and the tissue-guard of the Frontis which has also left a shadow on the adjacent page. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
