Brief, first-hand account of the highly secret, secure military balloon manufacturing and operations of the Aerostatic Institute, at the Royal Lodge of Meudon. Includes Guyton Morveau, Director Conte, Captain Coutel, and the balloons Entreprenant, Celeste, Hercule, and Intrepide. Housed in protective mylar report cover. Very scarce.

Good- to Good; all but one volume fully bound in contemporary leather, Vol V (1802) bound in marbled paper with leather to spine, all have spine labels with gilt titling but of varying styles; all have tears and surface marks to covers, most front hinges somewhat compromised but bindings all else tight; text blocks show age toning and several have liquid damage that extends to pages; foxing and age toning to pages throughout; plates present and intact though some with deep age toning and foxing; title page and first several pages of Second Hexade, Vol. VI show insect damage; previous owner bookplate to front pastedown of Vol. V (1802) "Ex Libris Henry Barton Jacobs;" previous owner name stamped on title pages of several volumes "Isaiah Matlack;" MF consignment.
