Written by two long term residents of China (Bredon was the niece of Sir Robert Hart, the famed Inspector-Ge…neral of the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs), with introduction by HJ Lethbridge. Details are provided of the rites and festivities of the Imperial court and the common people though the 12 months of the Chinese lunar calendar. Traces and sometimes much more of these superstitions and customs are still in practice among Chinese communities worldwide to the present day. Some light tanning of EPs; page fore-edges and interior pages tanned as is common in this edition, but otherwise unmarked. DJ spine slightly sunned. xx, 514 pp., 2 col. and 38 b&w illustrations.
