At its heart lies a fundamental realization that can no longer be ignored: the social contract has been broken for billions of people. As a result, the bonds between people, planet, and power must be rewoven.Increasingly recognized by the UN, global assessments such as the IPBES Transformative Change Assessment, and by a growing international community of civil society leaders, youth movements, and NGOs, eco-social contracts call for renewed solidarity, systemic equity across generations and communities, inclusive governance, and a fundamental transformation of economic systems. They challenge dominant economic paradigms and present a holistic and compelling alternativeone that rebalances our relationships with nature, institutions, and one another. This book captures that momentum, blending visionary thinking and grounded inspiration with hard-won lessons on unlocking and mobilising collective agency.Rooted in diverse knowledge systemsfrom Indigenous cosmologies and feminist and care-based economics to regenerative development and post-growth thoughtit brings together contributions from leading scholars, practitioners, artists, and activists across the globe. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Content Description. Sustainability Transitions in South Africa examines South Africa's efforts to move toward a more sustainable, low-carbon, resource-efficient, and employment-generating economy. Edited by Najma Mohamed, the volume brings together specialists examining the economic, social, environmental, technological, and public-policy dimensions of this transition. The contributors address the challenge of achieving environmental sustainability while also confronting South Africa's substantial problems of inequality, unemployment, and social vulnerability. Topics include climate change and vulnerability; employment and the transition to sustainability; sustainable-development policy; transformation of the financial system; innovation and technology; development of green skills; partnerships for sustainable value creation; and the importance of ensuring that the benefits of sustainability initiatives are broadly and equitably shared. Individual chapters consider South Africa's transition to sustainability, the socioeconomic benefits of an inclusive transition, climate-change vulnerability, employment, sustainability policy, sustainable finance, national systems of innovation, green skills and employment, partnerships, and inclusive sustainability transitions. Part of the Routledge Studies in Sustainability series, the volume provides a multidisciplinary examination of the interaction among environmental policy, economic development, employment, social equity, and sustainability in contemporary South Africa. Of particular interest to researchers, students, policymakers, development practitioners, and libraries concerned with South Africa, sustainable development, environmental policy, climate change, green economies, development studies, and sustainability transitions. Condition Description. Very Good. This copy was acquired from a bookseller who purchases publisher and distributor overstock. It appears to be an unsold overstock copy rather than a previously owned or used book. He sold it to me as a "New" book. It is clean, has a tight hardcover with a bright, clean interior and firm binding. No writing, highlighting, underlining, ownership marks, or other interior markings. Pages appear little used. Here's why I am not comfortable listing it as "New" or "Fine" - Though the color pictorial boards remain bright and attractive, they do show light shelf/storage wear, including minor surface rubbing and marks and small bumps/rubs at several corners and extremities, with slight loss at a few corner tips, as shown in the photographs. Overall, a clean, well-preserved copy with wear primarily confined to the exterior.…
