Max Muller issued the lectures, with notes and two different essays, in book form at London in 1873 as: Introducton to the science of religion. -- The lecture `Uber den Buddhistischen Nihilismus' was delivered and published at Kiel in 1869. -- Muller's version of the Dhammapada (423 verses in 26 books), from the Pali, first appeared in the introduction to `Buddhaghosha's parables', translated by T. Rogers, in 1870. Good orig. brown cloth, spine ends frayed, eps cracked at hinges.

See his long and appreciative entry in the Oxford DNB, concluding with the praise of his 'pioneering achievements, especially in the fields of Vedic studies and comparative philology'. 1p, 12mo. In good condition, lighty aged. Folded for postage. In autograph are the salutation ('Dear Mr. Conway') and valediction and postscript ('Yours very truly / F. Max Müller / (in bed with a cold)'. The printed body of the letter reads: 'Being quite unable to answer the numerous letters addressed to me, I had to choose this way of thanking my friends for their kind congratulations. / Unexpectedly as this distinction has come to me, I rejoice to see that so many whose opinion is very dear to me cordially approve of the Queen's gracious act.'.
