"Amorevolmente incrementata in oltre vent'anni di appassionate ricerche e accresciuta, rispetto al primitivo nucleo ottocentesco, da fotografie legate all'attualità giornalistica, la collezione di Silvio Negro (Chiampo 1897 Roma 1959) è costituita da oltre 6.000 positivi. I soggetti più ricorrenti sono le vedute di Roma della seconda metà dell'Ottocento, eseguite dai più noti fotografi del periodo. Sono presenti numerosi ritratti, sia sciolti che riuniti in album, di personaggi della nobiltà, del clero, della borghesia e della politica, a cavallo dei due secoli. Nel fondo Negro vi è poi una parte di fotografie contemporanee, raccolte nel corso dell'attività professionale del giornalista, composto da circa 1.200 fotografie il bianco e nero, provenienti da diverse agenzie del tempo. Numericamente più contenuta, la collezione appartenuta a Valerio Cianfarani (Roma 1912 - 1977), che fu soprintendente alle antichità degli Abruzzi e del Molise, è composta da circa 200 positivi, tutti di elevata qualità, raffiguranti monumenti, luoghi, personaggi prevalentemente romani, databili dalla metà alla fine del XIX secolo, eseguiti dai più importanti fotografi dell'epoca. Lo studioso compose la sua collezione spinto da interessi archeologici, con grande attenzione per le antiche e preziose immagini dei monumenti dell'antichità nel loro rapporto con gli edifici delle epoche successive, che raccontano di una Roma ormai scomparsa dove l'antico conviveva con il moderno".
