A selection of verse from the early books of South African poet and apartheid activist Mongane Wally Serote (b. 1944), published while he was living in exile. Serote returned to South Africa in 1990 after the ban was lifted on the anti-apartheid African National Congress, of which he was a member. In 2018, he was announced as the National Poet Laureate of South Africa. ***Near fine in glossy card covers, with a portrait of the poet on the front cover (by Anne A. Donker). The covers are clean and unmarked. No reading creases to the flat spine - appears unread or only lightly read. No reading lean to the binding and no tears. Page block edges nice and clean.
