On the one hand it was visionary of Blue Oak Press to publish this iconic title in the Native American Renaissance, on the other hand, it was unfortunate that some years later one of their executives saw fit to remainder the hardcovers on hand. It was a limited edition of only 100 and the remaindered titles were not signed (as claimed they would be in the credits). These were then picked up by a dealer who mistreated the books. Huge remainder mark on bottom edge, equally ostentatious black sharpie ".50" on the FFEP, and a sticker shadow on the upper right corner of front cover. The first dealer was probably the front stickered, and the second dealer marked down to the fifty cents. Lack of patience by all three parties. This poet taps into the Corrido with versified deadpan narrative of harsh lives and exploitation, effective use of concrete poetry layout throughout, one section with Taoist like aphorisms following the poems on the Seven Hells (seven deadly sins), not to mention all this well within the tradition of Native American vision quests (as described in introduction).
