Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. (LKM Music). The work is based on two of Rossini's most moving dramatic arias and remains one of the most popular virtuosic works for clarinet to this day. This critical edition by celebrated clarinetist Charles Neidich takes a fresh approach to this work, blending the 19th Century bel canto traditions which emphasize the emotional context of the arias in the musical notation with a master's perspective on modern clarinet technique. Detailed annotations and historical background equip the clarinetist with an in-depth musical and technical facility to authentically convey the characteristic elegance and drama of Rossini's style. The edition also includes a new cadenza by Neidich, selected from four of his original cadenzas as the one that best embraces the essence of the original work and aria inspiration. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. (LKM Music). Written for virtuoso clarinetist Heinrich Baermann, Concertino would become the first work of an impressive oeuvre for clarinet, one which along with that of Mozart, Spohr, and Brahms constitutes the backbone of the repertoire. Internationally-recognized clarinetist Charles Neidich unites for the first time Weber's original text with the edition published by Baermann's son, which had formed the basis of most subsequent editions. Also presented are examples from Cyrille Rose's 1879 edition which was the foundation of the French tradition and which held much more closely to Weber's original. This new critical edition inspires those learning the piece to develop their own personal, yet informed interpretation of Weber's premiere clarinet masterpiece. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. (LKM Music). Paul Jeanjean was the principal clarinetist of the Garde Republicaine Band and later of the MonteCarlo opera and was, obviously, a musician of the greatest sensitivity. His etudes are hightly developed concert works that can make for very impressive additions to recital programs. Jeanjean provided wonderfully detailed directions for his etudes. Charles Neidich has, by and large, left what he has written and have only brought Jeanjean's notation more into accord with modern conventions; e.g. that accidentals within a measure generally do not transpose octaves. This edition's notes at the bottom of each page explain the various modern chords and scales (augmented chords, 9th chords, whole tone scales for instance) he used in each of his etudes. These, unfortunately, were eliminated in the previous English version. The noteworthy feature of this edition is the recording, that can be accessed online, of Charles Neidich's performance of the etudes. Rather than clutter Jeanjean's already expressively notated scores with still more markings, the audio recording offers, as a window into the modern, yet romantic style of the etudes and as models of the kind of performance to which the student should aspire. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. (LKM Music). Called the Paganini of the clarinet by the English clarinet virtuoso, Henry Lazarus, Ernesto Cavallini was a respected friend and colleague of the most important Italian composers of his day, including Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi. From 1831 to 1851 he was principal clarinetist of La Scala. During that time he also toured extensively throughout Europe. In 1862, Anton Rubinstein appointed Cavallini to be the first clarinet professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, a position which he held until he left Russia to return to Milan in 1870. Cavallini wrote his 30 Caprices in five volumes, each including pieces for both technical and musical study. He was intensely interested that the Caprices be not merely technical exercises, but studies in style and phrasing: an introduction to the new expressive force of the new music of his time. With this in mind, he made numerous expressive indications in his etudes which went beyond the standard markings of crescendo, diminuendo, accelerando, ritardando. These markings have been restored in this edition and also include translations at the end of the volume. The noteworthy feature of this edition is the online audio included with Charles Neidich's performances of the Caprices. Rather than clutter Cavallini's already expressively notated scores with still more markings, this edition offers the online audio as a window into the "bel canto" style of the etudes and as models of the kind of performance to which the student should aspire. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. (Southern Music). Antonin Dvorak composed the quartet in F Major, op. 96 "The American" in the summer of 1893 during his summer vacation in Spillvale, Iowa. From 1892-1895, Dvorak served as director of the National Conservatory of Music in NYC. He had been interested in "American Music" and felt that Native American and Afro-American music could inspire an "American Music" distinct from European influences. He was inspired by (Henry Thacker) Harry Burleigh, his student in New York and one of the first Afro-American composers. While it is impossible to know why Georges Barrere chose Dvorak's F Major Quartet to transcribe for Woodwind Quintet, we may easily hazard several guesses. Firstly, it was a work much beloved by the public and very respected by professional musicians. As an immigrant himself, Barrere could easily sympathize with Dvorak's desire to create a distinctly American work. A work in the key of F Major, it lent itself easily to wind transcription. While known as the Barrere transcription, it turns out that Samuel Baron, one of Barrere's most famous students and a long time member of the New York Woodwind Quintet, who has to his credit a long list of wonderful transcriptions for woodwind quintet, played a significant role in the transcription.
