Issued as part of the Briar Patch Press African Collection series. i-xl, 1-447 pages. Hardcover: H 23.25cm x L 15.75cm. As usual lacks the undecorated glassine dust jacket with which it was issued. Handsome full black leather binding; spine decorated with three slightly raised bands; bright gilt stamping to front board and spine…. All edges gilt. Faux marbled patterned endpapers. Sewn-in pale pink silk ribbon page marker. Laid-in at front endpapers is bookmark for Jackson, Mississippi bookstore Lemuria. Interior pages are bright and clean. Binding remains fairly crisp. A fine copy. Introduction (pages ix-xviii) by Donald Young along with Neumann's original Preface (pages xxi-xxiv). With frontispiece plate, color map on page xx, other b/w illustrations both as full page plates and as well as inset amongst text by contributors John Guille Millais, Edmund Caldwell, and George Edward Lodge. Appendix "A List of Lepidoptera Collected by Mr. Arthur H. Neumann" by Emily Mary Sharpe on pages 437-447. ELEPHANT HUNTING IN EAST EQUATORIAL AFRICA was first published in 1898.
