Noppius nennt sein Werk bescheiden eine Uebersetzung des von Peter a Beeck (s. den Art.) 1620 in Quart herausgegebenen Aquisgranum, es ist vielmehr eine selbständige Arbeit durch Inhalt und Eintheilung in drei Bücher, deren erstes eine topographisch-historische Beschreibung der Stadt und Mittheilung über ihre Alterthümer bringt. N. bespricht ausführlich die Marien- oder die Krönungskirche, die Heiligthümer, die alle sieben Jahre stattfindende Heiligthumsfahrt oder das Passagium, die Salbung und Krönung der deutschen Könige, speciell Karl's V., ausführlich handelt er über die Regierung der Stadt, über die Zünfte, die Gerichte, das Schöffengericht, das auch ein Ober- oder Appellhof für verschiedene Städte und Ortschaften war und das Churgericht oder iudicium electivum. Das zweite Buch bringt in chronologischer Aufführung eine kurze Darstellung der wichtigsten historischen Ereignisse der Stadt, das dritte Buch endlich umfaßt nicht immer genaue Abdrücke in 39 Nummern von kaiserlichen Privilegien, päpstlichen Bullen, Statuten, Verträgen und Verordnungen. Um die Darstellung der Aachener Verfassung, wie sie sich durch die Feststellung derselben durch den Zunft- oder Gaffelbrief vom Jahre 1450 entwickelte, hat er sich ein bedeutendes Verdienst erworben. Bei den großen Urkundensammlungen des 18. Jahrhunderts und in J. J. Moser's Staatsrecht der Reichsstadt Aachen vom Jahre 1740 und anderwärts ist des Noppius drittes Buch benutzt worden. . In der Gesellschaft Zum Bock", welche die dritte Gaffel oder Zunft bildete, deren Mitglieder meistens zum Stande der Gelehrten gehörten, Geistliche, Aerzte, Juristen, Beamte, Procuratoren, Syndike etc. waren und die das Recht hatten, acht ihrer Mitglieder zum Rath zu erwählen, ernannte man ihn im J. 1629 zum Gräven oder Vorstand. Der Rath erkannte seine Verdienste um die Geschichte der Vaterstadt dadurch an, daß er ihn und seine Hausfrau in einer Zeit der Verarmung der Stadt infolge zweimaliger Achtserklärung nach der unseligen Periode des religiösen Zwistes und einer langen Occupation während der ersten Hälfte des 30jährigen Krieges von Wachediensten und Accise befreite, wie am Ende der Vorrede der Aachener Chronik der Rathsschreiber Nikolaus v. Münster im Namen des Raths erklärt". 1.
