Non si parla dell'intelligenza artificiale oggi di moda (IoT), ma di quella che guarda alla scienza mantenendo sullo sfondo la tecnologia. È un libro controcorrente. Non racconta come il frigorifero parli con il supermercato per fare la spesa, ma tenta di spiegare come "rendere automatico il pensiero", perché solo attraverso questo tipo di riflessione è possibile far comunicare fra loro "le cose", dotandole di un qualche grado d'intelligenza. Buscema afferma: "Il pensiero non sembra avere una massa, è invisibile anche a ciò che ci sembrava invisibile. Eppure, anche senza massa, i pensieri si attraggono tra loro. [.] L'intelligenza artificiale mira a [.] catturare il nocciolo duro di ciò che completa il mondo della materia". Il libro racconta anche la storia di un centro ricerche, il Semeion, attraverso gli occhi di coloro che lo frequentano e l'hanno fatto esistere, un piccolo miracolo italiano che dura da 35 anni. The former is better known, as it serves as a useful tool for automating human labor and generating market profits; the latter is less widely recognized but is more scientifically oriented towards saving lives (in the medical field), explaining otherwise inexplicable phenomena (in the geophysical field), and enhancing our understanding of the material and abstract world. Both are valuable yet distinct: the emulative approach generates immediate profits and creates illusions of human-like power, while the investigative approach enhances fundamental scientific research and will yield its greatest benefits over time. The investigative approach presented in this volume seeks to rebuild the bridge between humanity and nature.
