Im ersten Teil wird gefragt, ob die Wissenschaft einen Beitrag zu unserem Weltbild leisten kann, oder ob sie einzig dazu taugt, Voraussagen zu machen oder Erfahrungen zu ordnen in einer Welt, deren Züge durch andere überlegungen bereits festgelegt sind. Im zweiten Teil wird gefragt, ob die Methoden und Ergebnisse der Wissen schaft wirklich die immense Autorität haben, die man ihnen heute zuschreibt. Die Antwort auf die erste Frage lautet: die Wissenschaft kann eine Kosmolo gie im vollen Sinne des Wortes sein, sie ist in dieser Hinsicht der Religion, der Philosophie, dem Alltagsdenken, dem Mythos sicher nicht untergeordnet. Ich erreiche diese Antwort auf dem Umweg über die Diskussion eines Problems, das in der Literatur den etwas pompösen Namen 'Das Problem der Existenz theoreti scher Entitäten' erhalten hat. Die Antwort auf die zweite Frage lautet: die Wissenschaft ist anderen Ideolo gien aber auch nicht übergeordnet, sie hat keine höhere Autorität als jene. Diese Antwort erhalte ich in zwei Schritten. Erstens durch eine Kritik der Wissenschafts theorie, wo man ja zeigen will, warum die Wissenschaft so hervorragt. Zweitens durch eine Kritik der von den Wissenschaften selbst gemachten Ansprüche.

Ob nun Sinnkriterien, Forschungslogiken oder Rekonstruktionen des ,harten" Kerns von naturwissenschaftlichen Theorien bemuht wurden, um festzulegen, was den Ehrentitel ,wissenschaftliche Rationalitat" verdiene: Feyerabend kritisierte diese Festschreibungen der einzig richtigen und legitimen Methode mit jener fur ihn charakteristischen Respektlosigkeit, die an das gute alte epater le bourgeois anschloss. Die Ordnungshuter im Reiche der Vernunft und Wissenschaft vor den Kopf zu stossen, zahlte zu seinen vornehmsten Beschaftigungen. Diese polemische Verve und den ironischen Witz Feyerabends fuhren auch die zwei in seinen letzten Lebensjahren verfassten Dialoge uber die Erkenntnis vor Augen. Im ersten, ,Platonische Phantasien", ist eine bunt zusammengewurfelte Gruppe von Studenten zwar durchaus nicht dazu zu bringen, bei dem Seminartext von Plato zu bleiben. Aber weil Feyerabend mit seinen fiktiven Figuren geschickt Regie fuhrt, wird daraus ein uberaus anregendes Streitgesprach uber Wissenschaft, Objektivitat und den Nutzen philosophischer Reflexion. Im zweiten Dialog treibt Feyerabend einem bildungsbeflissenen Interviewer, der dem beruhmten Professor beim Waldspaziergang auflauert, die allzu hehren Vorstellungen von Philosophie aus. Der Leser erhalt dabei einen bundigen Abriss von Feyerabends Maximen im Umgang mit Philosophie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte.

Mnohorozmernost skutecnosti nelze podle nej vycerpat a zahrnout pod jeden pristup, ani ho pokryt jedinou vylucnou metodou. Filozoficky vyklad Rozpravy proti metode je podan poutave, srozumitelne a zaujme predevsim lidi nepredpojateho mysleni pristupne novym nazorum. Prestoze je dnes Feyerabend povazovan za jednoho z nejvyznamnejsich filozofu 20. stoleti, cesky vysla zatim jeho jedina kniha - Tri dialogy o vedeni. Nejen proto je ceske vydani nejznamejsiho Feyerabendova dila Rozpravy proti metode, ktere vyslo jiz v osmnacti jazycich, vyznamnym pocinem.
