Esta opera prima recorrio la isla, Luisa fue leida en todos los circulos literarios y aclamada como una gran poetisa, veredicto que el tiempo ha confirmado, pues hoy se la incluye entre las mejores no solo de Cuba, sino de Hispanoamerica.El libro dio la vuelta a la Isla, y ya en La Habana, el intelectual don Ramon Zambrana quedo prendado de su obra, yendo a Santiago de Cuba para conocerla y casarse con ella, para luego trasladarse juntos a La Habana.Por sus grandes dotes poeticas y su gracia y finura, Luisa fue elegida para coronar a la gran Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda en el Teatro Tacon, en 1860.Luisa Perez de Zambrana no tenia una formacion academica ni una solida cultura, pero nacio con el don de la poesia. Sufrio en vida las mayores desgracias humanas: la perdida de su padre a edad muy temprana, de su esposo (mientras contaba ella treinta anos), de sus hermanas mas queridas, de sus cinco hijos entre 1869 y 1898;la pobreza absolutay el olvido de los circulos literarios.Por esta razon su obra se caracterizo por su sensibilidad, melancolica y tierna, con reflexiones religiosas y filosoficas sobre la muerte.
