This book delves into the heart of American culture, capturing the spirit of a nation through the lens of its beloved pastime: baseball. The author masterfully weaves a tale of anticipation, hope, and ultimately, disappointment, as a small-town baseball team pins its dreams of victory on the shoulders of their star player, Casey. Set against the backdrop of a simpler time, the narrative explores themes of heroism, community, and the human spirit's unwavering belief in the possibility of triumph. The reader is transported to a bygone era, where the crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd unite people from all walks of life in a shared experience of passion and suspense. Through vivid imagery and evocative language, the author captures the essence of baseball as more than just a game; it becomes a metaphor for life's challenges and the unpredictable nature of fate. The book's insights remind us that even in the face of defeat, the journey itself can hold profound meaning, and the spirit of hope can endure long after the final out. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good-. Dan Sayre Groesbeck (illustratore). First Illustrated Edition. unpaginated. Green boards, gilt lettering, Baseball bat wrapped in black ribbon on the front panel. The backstrip is missing from the spine which is present except for an inch on the bottom. Humorous orange, black and white illustrations by Dan Sayre Groesbeck throuhgout. Several pages at the begfinning of the back show waviness, there is some soiling to the pages, overall a sturdy copy of this Baseball classic. "A humorous ballad, the poem focuses on the fictional Mudville Nine, who are losing to their opponent, and their hopes for a victory rest on their star player, Casey. The poem depicts the last inning, with Mudville needing a home run to win. The first two batters fail, and while the next two surprisingly get on base, Casey, overconfident and arrogant, strikes out swinging, ending the game and the fans' hopes." Size: Octavo. Book.
