About the Author:-R. Vasudeva Poduval was born in 1896 and died in 1978. He is perhaps a lesser known name amongst them. However, his contribution towards the field of archaeology remains matchless. In 1928, Poduval was appointed as Government Archaeologist by Dewan M.E. Watts, and in 1936 he rose to the position of Superintendent of Archaeology in Travancore state.Poduval became the Director of Archaeology in 1947. Under him, the department adopted scientific methods and technologies in excavation. The departmental activities were compartmentalised into excavation, conservation, and research, with due importance given to all sections. After his retirement in 1954, he took up an assignment as Labour Welfare Secretary, Gemini Studios. In 1957, he became 'Special Officer' in charge of the Sri Chitralayam, and in 1958 he was nominated to the Travancore Dewasom Board by Sree Chithira Tirunal.
