Mass Market PaperBack. Condizione: Fair. Mostly mild wear, marginal darkening to cover. Edges worn. Spine creased, seemingly likewise mild, but is starting to split at hinge pages 126 & 127, though still intact and sound. There is a rubber stamped name & address of previous owner top right corner of half title page and has been…unhelpfully crossed over in ballpoint. Verso of back cover has attractively designed and small (1/2' x 3/4') sticker affixed of a previous dealer: 'The Brown Shop'.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Moses Hadas - A History of Rome: From Its Origins to 529 A.D. as Told by the Roman Historians. Garden City, NY: Doubleday Anchor Books, 1956. Anchor A78. Original cream and red wraps featuring the Colosseum and Capitoline wolf motif; priced 95¢ ($1.10 in Canada). Compact 12mo format with tight…binding and clean, bright pages. Doubleday Anchor Original (First Edition thus.) This well-preserved copy of the mid-century Anchor Original presents a continuous narrative of Rome's rise and fall through translated selections from Livy, Julius Caesar, Tacitus, Suetonius, Dio Cassius, and others. Light toning to spine and cover edges with minor rubbing at lower front corner. Front endpaper bears a 1956 Austin inscription: 'Ron Paul Johnson, Austin, Tex., 1956 May. Gift from John Hejduk.' The gift inscription is from John Hejduk (1929-2000), the celebrated architect, artist, and educator who taught at the University of Texas at Austin in the 1950s before becoming Dean of the Cooper Union School of Architecture. A founding member of the influential 'Texas Rangers' group, Hejduk is revered for his poetic and conceptual architectural vision. A meaningful association copy linking two mid-century academic circles - architecture and classical studies - through Hejduk's hand. Very Good condition. Moses Hadas (1900-1966) was a renowned American classicist and professor of Greek and Latin at Columbia University. He is celebrated for his lucid translations and accessible anthologies that brought Greco-Roman literature to a wide audience. His Anchor Books editions helped popularize classical texts for mid-century readers and remain cornerstones of modern classical study.
