The book provides mtl dating back to the Spanish explorers, early traders and pack trains, the overland mail, the establishment of the fort, Civil War days, the organization of the 7th U.S. Cavalry in 1866 under the command of General George A. Custer, the mid 1880s when Fort Riley became the home to the Army's Cavalry and Light Artillery Schools, to the advent of WWI.
