Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, a scientific exploration of the nature of yellow, provides a detailed method for the precise specification of yellow hues. The author begins by describing the properties of light, explaining that color arises from the interaction of different wavelengths with the eye. They also discuss how the perceived color of an object depends on both the light illuminating it and the object's own properties. The author then develops a method for measuring the relative reflecting power of a substance for different wavelengths of light. This method is used to characterize the color of butter and margarine, and the author shows how the ratio of blue to yellow reflecting power can be used to specify the yellowness of a sample. They demonstrate that their method can be used to distinguish between different samples of butter and margarine, and that it can also be used to detect the presence of artificial coloring. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the science of color. It provides a clear and concise explanation of the physics of color, and it offers a practical method for measuring and specifying the color of objects. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. The findings of the investigation revealed that there are uncertainties inherent in the nature of the glasses themselves, which makes obtaining precision and reliability in calibration impossible. The glasses were found to depart from ideal color standards due to imperfections such as surface waviness, scratches, and striae. These imperfections introduce significant uncertainty to spectral transmission and affect judgments of hue and saturation. Additional uncertainty comes from the approximate equivalence of red and yellow at 35Y, where small differences in either color can result in an incorrect match. The full spectral transmission of eight glasses was determined, and empiric formulas were derived to predict the yellow scale numeral based on purity and the sunlight transmission based on visibility. The author concludes that the results of this study can be used to identify glasses that more closely approximate standard 35Y, but that more reliable and precise grading methods are needed to take full advantage of the standardization. This book with insights into the limitations of the 35-yellow Lovibond glasses is an essential reference for color scientists, the oil industry and oil chemists, and anyone working with color standards.
