Very good + condition with only minor signs of wear. Inscribed by Robert Coles on front free endpaper to Francine (du Plessix Gray) in September 1971: "For Francine.Bob". These conversations, and the events surrounding them in the summer of 1970, describe a geography of faith whose landscape included open defiance of the government, a varied response from the psychiatric community, recourse to prayer and solitude, and, finally, nationwide attention that has heightened the meaning of nonviolent resistance in America. Underground from April to August, Father Daniel Berrigan refused to report to Federal authorities to begin imprisonment for his antiwar action at Catonsville, Maryland. Meanwhile, Daniel's brother Philip had been arrested and imprisoned in Lewisburg. In July he began a fast to protest prison harassment and the news provoked a reaction in many people, notable Dr. Robert Coles. Operating on both fronts, Coles visited Philip Berrigan in prison, then later met with Daniel Berrigan, still underground, to open a discussion on a variety of shared concerns. What is health anyway? What is the future of the nuclear family? How can the movement be 'a school of alternatives"? What are the responsibilities of the professionals? In general, how do a Jesuit priest and a child psychiatrist, in similar or dissimilar ways, deal with the demands placed upon human development in a time of war and national protest? This book, an edited transcript of the Berrigan-Coles conversations, deals with these and other questions. It also includes a remarkable, long introduction by Coles on the meaning of his own work and the example which Daniel Berrigan has tried to set. Dr. Robert Coles is a child psychiatrist presently associated with the Harvard University Health Services. Active in social issues, he is the author of a well-known study of the American poor, entitled 'Children of Crisis'. Sprache: english.

Using High Windows, the last published volume of poems by Philip Larkin, as a point of reference to focus on the business of death and love, the baroque and lavish fractals of Hirst's paintings have a direct and clear poetry of their own, making Superstition a grand and tender body of work: Larkin would probably have seen straight away the point of Hirst's butterflies, these most evanescent of nature's creatures, trapped here in their thousands under glass, their bright day done yet glowing still in death. .Superstition includes over 30 exquisite full colour plates of the butterfly paintings, as well as reproductions of details and installation shots, providing a curatorial insight into this magnificent body of paintings. In addition to the wonderfully rich plates Superstition reproduces 6 of Philip Larkin's poems, a commentary by Richard Bradford, and an erudite introduction by John Banville: Death informs our every aspiration, our every hope, and stands at the end of every turn we take, the iron gate that will open just for us. As someone has said of the novel, having a happy ending depends on where you stop.

The invitation followed in the wake of the prestigious Biennale Grand Prize awarded to Hirst in 2001 for his suite of 'Last Supper' prints. For Ljubljana, Hirst chose to put together his first-ever exhibition of drawings. Spanning his entire career, the exhibition consisted of approximately 150 drawings drawn from a large number of public and private collections. They ranged from early drawings done when Hirst was a teenager to intimate drawings made for close friends. The exhibition also included preparatory sketches for some of Hirst's well-known sculptural work as well as sketches and ideas for future work; Hirst also included his sculpture From the Cradle to the Grave (2000) in the exhibition. The range of material is broad and eclectic, shadowing the countless interests and enthusiasms of the artist and casting a unique insight into the life and working methods of this much publicised artist.A fully illustrated 352-page catalogue and a limited-edition T-shirt accompanied the show, designed by the artist in collaboration with Jason Beard. The catalogue features the most complete set of Hirst's drawings available at that time.his monograph surveys 15 years of Hirst's drawing practice, from simple notations to detailed working drawings. The collection allows the reader to explore Hirst's preoccupations and passions focusing on the ambiguity at the heart of human experience. .OCLC Number 56912582.Essays by Annushka Shani and A.A.
