Gesamthaft grossenteils sauberes, recht ordentliches Exemplar - - swissbib mit 6 Standorten - Erbauliche und ermahnende, in gewisser Weise auch allegorisch ansetzende Predigt unter der Vorgabe: 'Was aus Gott geboren ist, überwindet die Welt und das ist der Sieg, welcher die Welt überwindet, unser Glaube' (I. Joh. 5, 4) - Mit verschiedenartigsten historischen Reminiszenzen bestückte Rede, in welcher der in dieser hohen Zeit des Kulturkampfes und auch nach 25 Jahren des Bundesstaates weiter herrschende Verdruss durchaus zum Ausdruck kommt. Die Auseinandersetzungen und Diskussionen um die Revision der Bundesverfassung in den Jahren 1871-72 dürften ebenfalls für Beunruhigung gesorgt haben (vgl. P. Schollenberger, Bundesverfassung, 1905, p. 39 ff.; Kaiser/Strickler, Bundesverfassungen, 1901, p. 122 ff.) - "In diesem Glauben und mit demselben ist auch unser Piusverein, ein natürliches [sic!] Kind seiner Zeit, hervorgegangen aus den Zeitereignissen. Die vierziger Jahre dieses Jahrhunderts haben an diesem Baum unserer vaterländischen Kirche manchen Ast gebrochen, manchen Zweig geknickt, denn nach gewaltthätiger Ueberrumpelung der katholischen Urkantone, nach willkürlicher Zerstörung vieler Stifte und Klöster und Zerreißung alter Bündnisse, haben sich die Feinde der Kirche sogar an die Wurzel des Baumes gewagt. Der [.] geheiligte Boden Roms [.] sollte dem rechtmäßigen Nachfolger desselben [?] hinweggenommen und dadurch die ganze Wirksamkeit unsers Glaubens gehemmt werden. Glaubenseifrige Männer unseres schweizerischen Vaterlandes konnten solchen Unbilden nicht länger unthätig zusehen. Im Sommer des Jahres 1854 traten sie am stillen Ufer jenes See's zusammen [.] und legten da die Grundlage zu diesem segensreichen Verein, dessen Jahresfest wir heute feiern. Jeder Verein hat seine Fahne, jede Gesellschaft ihr Wappen [.]. Soll der Piusverein nicht auch seinen Wappenschild haben? Und welchen soll er führen? Keinen andern als den unsers schönen Vaterlandes.
