Brown clo…th with a heavy patterned embossed design on the covers, with gilt letters on the front cover and the spine, and with red edges on the textblock. Very minor wear to extremities with a couple of corners just barely rubbed through, fingernail-sized lightly abraded spot on upper right corner of front cover, gilt bright, front hinge cracked but cover tightly attached, color figures in fine condition, tissue guard intact, other figures in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Siegfried Rabow (1848-1931) was a German psychiatrist who began pharmacological researches in 1879. From 1890 he taught in the University of Lausanne, from 1890 to 1899 as extraordinary Professor for Psychiatry, from 1899 to 1902 as ordinary Professor for Therapeutic Treatment and Pharmacology. From 1887 to 1909 he was co-editor of the magazine Therapeutische Monatshefte. And in 1897 he published the Handbuch der Arzneimittellehre with Louis Bourget which is offered here. This is a comprehensive and thorough work by two professors in the Unversity of Lausanne. PLEASE NOTE: Extra postage may be required for this large and heavy volume.

VOl' AHem wirkte anregend und ermuthigend die so haufig gemachte Erfahrung, dass unter den gegenwartigen Verhaltnissen jedes Buch willkommen geheissen wird, das in erster Linie die Bedurfnisse del' Praxis berucksichtigt und das praktische Interesse mit strengster wissenschaftlicher Darlegung zu verschmelzen versteht. Ein deral'tiges Buch fertigzustellen, darauf war seit vielen Jahren unser ganzes Bestreben 'gerichtet. Dasselbe sollte, bei nicht zu grossem Umfange, einen verhaltnissmassig reichen Inhalt haben und vermoge zweckmassiger Anordnungen und Einrich tungen Studirende und Ante, deren Zeit knapp zugemessen ist, "in den Stand setzen, sich schnell und leicht zu informiren. Das Vcrtrauen auf unsere bisherige Laufbahn und praktische Thatigkeit in den verschiedensten Disciplinen del' medizinischen WissenschaJt liess uns die mit del' Bearbeitung eines derartigen Buches verbundenen Schwierigkeiten als leichter uberwindbar er scheinen. Und ganz besonders war uns, deren bescheidener Wirkungs kreis sich seit einer Reihe von Jahren auf del' schmalen Grenze zwischen zweien gross en , in ihrem Denken und Handeln so variirenden Kulturvolkern befindet, viel daran gelegen, den ver schiedenen Lehr- und Heilmethoden del' Deutschen und Franzosen in zweckmassiger Vereinigung zur Anschauung zu bringen. Aus diesem Grunde erscheint auch das Buch in beiden Sprachen. Vorwort.
