Der Band enthält selbstkritische Töne vor allem von Antje Vollmer (Das Privileg der ersten, viele Fehler zu machen - Gründe für den Niedergan;g Vollmer war rund 30 Jahre später, 2022, eine der letzten Grünen, die sich gegen die Fixierung auf Waffenlieferungen in Bezug auf den Krieg in der Ukraine aussprachen!) und Petra Kelly (Zuallererst sind wir menschlich gescheitert; makabrerweise ist dieser Text - eine der letzten Veröffentlichungen Kellys - eine Art politisches Testament geworden). Programmatisch am folgenreichsten war vielleicht der Text von Winfried Kretschmann (Wie konserbativ müssen die Grünen sein? - Warum eine ökologische Partei nicht "links" sein kann), mit dem dieser die Grünen aus der linken Ecke herauszuholen und konservativ zu vereinnahmen versuchte - einem Systembruch erteilte der Ex-Maoist Kretschmann hier eine klare Absage, einer sozialistischen Alternative stellte er eine angeblich mögliche Koalition zwischen Ökonomie und Ökologie entgegen.
