Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. The Bubble Books, also known as The Harper-Columbia Book That Sings, were a series of innovative children's books published by Harper & Brothers in partnership with the Columbia Graphophone Company, beginning in 1917. They are considered the first commercial publication to combine a book with phonograph records, featuring nursery rhymes that could be read while being played on a 78 rpm record player. Each book measured about 6 by 7 inches and contained colorful illustrations by Rhoda Chase. Sleeves were built directly into three of the book's pages to hold the miniature 78 rpm records. The lyrics for each song were printed alongside illustrations of the characters and story. In this copy of the Fifth Bubble Book, "The Pie Party", Little Jack Horner sings "Sing a Song of Sixpence", "The Queen of Hearts", and "Good King Arthur", played on three small 5.5" records nestled within their respective sleeves throughout. Boards are covered in an off-white paper with illustration by artist Rhonda Chase in purples and reds. Illustrated throughout, also in purple and red colors. Text is in dark brown. 15 pp. CONDITION: External cover shows moderate wear and soiling. Leaves have lightly toned. All three records are present and intact. The first record is in lovely condition with no scratches. The second and third records have minor scratching. A three inch closed tear runs diagonally long the upper third of the first record's sleeve through the text, (which is also page 6), but the record is still well enclosed. A minor one inch closed tear runs vertically at the head of the second record's sleeve on page 10, but does not compromise the text, nor weaken the strength of the sleeve. An absolutely delightful first edition copy. Full refund if not satisfied.
