Chase was an Anoka Republican who served one term in the Minnesota Legislature, as State Auditor and was a candidate for Governor in 1930. Coleman points out that Chase was not just rabidly anti-communist (and socialist), but also introduced anti-Semitism into Minnesota State politics, probably for the first time.
