Il etait considere comme l'auteur du Livre d'Henoch et appelait aussi Henoch le scribe du jugement.Selon la tradition ecrite hebraique appelee Tanakh, rapportee dans la Genese, chapitre 5, versets 22-24, Henoc aurait ete pris par Dieu pour qu'il ne connaisse pas la mort et aurait ete epargne par la colere du deluge: "Et Henoc marcha avec Dieu, apres avoir engendre Mathusalem trois cents ans, et engendre des fils et des filles. Et tous les jours d'Henoch furent de trois cent soixante-cinq ans.
