Es gibt in den USA eine ganze Industrie von Büchern über Self-Help, Self-Improvement, Popular Psychology und vieles mehr. In Deutschland sind diese Selbsthilferatgeber bisher (noch) weit weniger populär. Das liegt wohl zu einem großen Teil an der Mentalität der Amerikaner. Man ist dort der festen Überzeugung, daß jeder Mensch das Recht und auch die Möglichkeit (die verdammte Pflicht!) hat, glücklich zu werden. Konsequenterweise hat jeder Mensch auch sein eigenes Leben, sein Schicksal selbst und ganz allein in der Hand. Jedem steht es frei, seine Persönlichkeit, seinen Charakter, sein Menschsein, kontinuierlich zu verbessern, ja zu optimieren. Wurzelnd in dieser Grundeinstellung des "American Dream" hat eine Industrie Fuß gefaßt, die den Menschen mit Hilfe von Büchern Erfolg verspricht. Covey's Buch ist eines der wenigen Bücher, die nicht mehr versprechen als sie halten. Dies liegt aber nicht daran, daß Covey etwa nicht viel versprechen würde. Nein, sein Buch ist eines der ganz wenigen, die tatsächlich Mittel und Wege aufzeigen, wie ein Mensch sein Leben zum Positiven verändern und sinnvoller gestalten kann. Covey's Buch "Die sieben Wege zur Effektivität" (im amerikanischen Original"The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People") ist das wohl erfolgreichste Buch seines Genres. Es gibt in den USA eine ganze Industrie von Büchern über Self-Help, Self-Improvement, Popular Psychology und vieles mehr. In Deutschland sind diese Selbsthilferatgeber bisher (noch) weit weniger populär. Das liegt wohl zu einem großen Teil an der Mentalität der Amerikaner. Man ist dort der festen Überzeugung, daß jeder Mensch das Recht und auch die Möglichkeit (die verdammte Pflicht!) hat, glücklich zu werden. Konsequenterweise hat jeder Mensch auch sein eigenes Leben, sein Schicksal selbst und ganz allein in der Hand. Jedem steht es frei, seine Persönlichkeit, seinen Charakter, sein Menschsein, kontinuierlich zu verbessern, ja zu optimieren. Wurzelnd in dieser Grundeinstellung des "American Dream" hat eine Industrie Fuß gefaßt, die den Menschen mit Hilfe von Büchern Erfolg verspricht. Covey's Buch ist eines der wenigen Bücher, die nicht mehr versprechen als sie halten. Dies liegt aber nicht daran, daß Covey etwa nicht viel versprechen würde. Nein, sein Buch ist eines der ganz wenigen, die tatsächlich Mittel und Wege aufzeigen, wie ein Mensch sein Leben zum Positiven verändern und sinnvoller gestalten kann. Covey setzt sich bewußt in Widerspruch zum herkömmlichen Ansatz, der suggeriert, man könne mit Hilfe einfacher und teilweise betrügerischer Psychotricks glücklich, beliebt, reich und berühmt werden. Covey hingegen macht von Anfang an klarWer im Leben etwas erreichen will, der muß den harten Weg gehen - es gibt keine Abkürzungen im Leben. Ein schlechter Charakter kann nicht durch Psychotricks Beliebtheit erlangen. Jeder.
