Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. English summary: The recently printed 4th volume covers three insect groups: The Diplura (Author: E. Christian, Vienna), the Symphyta (Author: W. Schedl, Innsbruck) and the Auchenorrhyncha (Author: W.E. Holzinger, Graz). The Austrian dipluran fauna currently comprises 18 species and one subspecies, belonging to 2 families. The taxonomy of subterranean populations of the Plusiocampa strouhali group is not yet resolved. More distinct species are listed in the Symphyta: currently recorded in Austria are 714 species belonging to 12 families. Nearly 12 species may be regarded as questionable. There is also a large number of Auchenorrhyncha (cicada), namely 626 species. In addition, 32 species have unclear taxonomical status. It is assumed that due to their habitat requirements perhaps a further 40 species will live in Austria. So the number of cicada species in Austria might be at least 670. German description: In dem nun vorliegenden Band No. 4 werden insgesamt drei Insektengruppen behandelt: Die Diplura = Doppelschwanze (Autor: E. Christian, Wien), die Pflanzenwespen = Symphyta (Autor: W. Schedl, Innsbruck) sowie die Zikaden = Auchenorrhyncha (Autor: W.E. Holzinger, Graz). This 4th volume covers three insect groups: The Diplura (Author: E. Christian, Vienna), the Symphyta (Author: W. Schedl, Innsbruck) and the Auchenorrhyncha (Author: W.E. Holzinger, Graz). Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. English summary: The new checklist includes altogether more than 330 Austrian arthropod species, insects as well as arachnids. The species are listed in the following four contributions: 1) Protura (Insecta); author: Erhard Christian, Vienna. Currently 58 species are reliably recorded from Austria; records of another eight species are doubtful. 2) Opiliones (Arachnida); author: Christian Komposch, Graz. 62 species resp. subspecies are listed, two are endemic. It can be estimated that soon the number of harvestmen species recorded in Austria will increase. 3) Pseudoscorpiones (Arachnida); author: Volker Mahnert, Geneve. Until now 71 species were found in Austria, two of them for the first time. Seven species can be considered as endemic taxa. 4) Tipulidae (Insecta: Diptera) - The Austrian checklist of this family contents 141 species, but three species had to be removed because the presence in Austria within the present borders is dubious. Some species seem to be endemic. In the contributions some ecological and zoogeographical details are added, but also for each group of animals mentioned an information about the history of exploration in Austria. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. English summary: The inventory of ciliate taxa in Austria, first compiled by Wilhelm and Ilse Foissner in the Catalogus Faunae Austriae Ic (CFA) in 1988, has now been brought up to date. The number of records, which started out at around 3,500 in the CFA, increased to 74,000, mainly due to saprobiological monitoring programs in Upper Austrian streams between 1992 and 2006. The taxonomic, bibliographic, classificatory and faunal data were published in the journal Beitrage zur Naturkunde Oberosterreichs (contributions to the natural history of Upper Austria) in 2012 and are continuously consolidated and cross-linked in the database of Austrian ciliates at the Linz Biology Center. Even these new summaries are still far from complete, as revealed by large differences in the results from the provinces and the fifteen species that have been newly verified in Austria since 2012. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Neuware -During the Inaugural Meeting of the European Association of Acarol ogists (EURAAC), held in Amsterdam in 1987, it was decided that the holding of a Symposium at regular intervals should be a major objective. With this in view, it was agreed that Professor Reinhart Schuster, the senior editor, be invited to accept the Presidency of the Association and, arising from that Office, to organize the first Symposium in Austria in 1988. There was strong support for a main theme focused on a particular aspect of acarology. From these discussions there emerged the proposal that emphasis be placed on aspects of reproduction, development and life-history strategies of the Acari. These were topics in the forefront of the discipline with exciting developments of interest not only to acarologists but to a wider audience because of the light they cast on fundamental processes in physiology, ecology and evolutionary biology. The object then was to invite a small number of key workers to present extended papers related to the main theme. There were seven of these all of which appear in the book.
