The author examines the doctrine of free will in this context and then surveys the positions of various Protestant denominations (including Pre-Millennarians) and the Catholic church. He draws on scriptures, Augustine, Bishop D'Arcy (Church of Ireland), and others. Rev. William Ridgely Powell (1838-1919) was an Episcopal minister in Portland, Oregon.
