First U.S. edition hardcover, bound in yellow cloth, with purple lettering on spine, is in Fair+ condition, having much wear to covers and spine (spine is darkened and has a stain midway down) (see photos), there is rubbing to front and back covers, and perhaps a couple of spots of foxing on front cover; pages, which are deckle-edged, show some normal age-toning (especially so since this was a war-time edition); corners of covers show some bumping and light wear. Translated from French to English by Walter Schaap and Leonard G. Feather. Introduction by Arnold Gingrich. Widely considered the first "serious" study of Jazz, this was the work of a Belgian lawyer, author, poet, and jazz enthusiast. Music. Jazz. Critical studies. DB.
