Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the timber industries of southern New England based on the results of a survey conducted by the author. The book contains statistics on industrial timber production and receipts in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, by state and species, as well as log shipments made between states, sawmills and lumber production, and the production and disposition of manufacturing residues. The data shows that between 1971 and 1984, the production of sawlogs nearly doubled in the region, with Massachusetts accounting for 61% of that increase. In the same period, the harvest of pulpwood dropped by 36% as wood fiber requirements changed. The book also examines the use of manufacturing plant residues, with nearly all of the total residue available being used, and the proportion of coarse sawmill residues used rose from 75 to 97%. The author concludes that the timber industry in southern New England has grown and changed in recent years, and the book provides valuable insights into these changes and their implications for the region's economy and environment.
