4to. 2 pp. With autograph envelope. To the musician Frederick Allan Wilshire (1868-1944), describing his life as rather quiet. Politely refusing an invitation, he explains that he tries to travel to London as little as possible and already has two other engagement: "It is pleasant to be reminded of those old festival days before… the war. Life was almost all fun in those days! If I lived in town it would have been a pleasure to me to lunch with you: but I live, as you see, some 20 miles out, and I am virtually never in London except for a concert at night, when I go straight to the place of execution & straight back again [.] I am glad to see this gallant spirit in Bristol: I suppose it's because the town is the home of that glorious product, Bristol Cream [.]". - With embossed letterhead. Envelope with embossed address of "The Times Book Club" under the flap.

Typed letter signed with few autograph corrections.

8vo. 1 page. To the musician Frederick Allan Wilshire (1868-1944). Newman is unable to provide information on Wagner Societies in England and gives an outline of the work that preoccupied him at the time: "I am glad to hear of the formation of your Wagner Society, and wish it good luck and long life. I don't know whether there a…re any other Wagner Societies still in existence in England. I would suggest your asking the Musical Times [.] I have completely given up lecturing: I have about a dozen books on hand, and I have had do give up every form of activity that draws upon the time I need for these. It seems a long while now since we heard the 'Ring' in Bristol. These were great days! [.]". In 1931 Newman had published his work "Fact and Fiction about Wagner". - With embossed letterhead.
