Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. Staple-bound 55-page collection of mimeographed or photocopied articles about "the communist threat", "communist subversion" and the like in the U.S. educational system, once distributed by the Institute for Special Research, Pasadena, California, founded by George Washington Robnett, founder of the Church League of America. A very interesting example of the anti-communist hysteria that led to the gross abuses of the House Un-American Activities Committee and the Subversive Activities Control Board. It has a little toning in the lower right corner of the front cover and a single 1/8" spot on the back cover, is otherwise in almost pristine condition. We will pack it in bubble-wrap and ship it in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery.

Pamphlet. 101p. staplebound booklet, overlapping edges worn where they extend past the textblock. Interior clean and unmarked. Robnett, an advertising executive, co-founded the National Laymen's Council, Church League of America, in 1937. Here he warns of foreign socialist influences and alleged challenges to Christian dominance. In his later years Robnett became more explicitly anti-Semitic in his writings, but in this work such impulses are quite thoroughly masked.

Handbill. Four items of various formats, including two 9x13 inch broadsides ("An American Credo" and "The Call is for Courage"), News and Views Bulletin no. 147, a leaflet concluding "Let's hold on to the American Way," an 8.5x11 inch literature list, and the cover letter, responding to a request for literature. All have been stapled together at the upper left corner. The larger broadsides have a split starting at the end of the fold crease. Robnett, an advertising executive, co-founded the National Laymen's Council, Church League of America, in 1937. In his cover letter he cites the Council's opposition to Federal control of education, and the creeping threat of socialist teachers. The other items include calls for isolationism, curtailment of foreign aid, and anti-communist warnings.
