Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Joseph Rodgers (illustratore). 1st Edition. Anonymous [Jacob Zimmerman]. Black and White. Philadelphia: The Literary Bureau, Inc., [1911]. First edition. Octavo, pp. [1-4] [1-4] 5-167 [168: blank]. Original white cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black and red, spine panel stamped in red. Illustrated with five inserted plates, including a frontis, by Joseph Rodgers. A few light stains to cloth, and to four pages inside, still generally a very good copy. Quite scarce. #615. $100. Smith Z-8. Short novel set in contemporary America, starting out in New York and working its way west until it ends in San Francisco, its intention apparently being reform of social attitudes about sex and marriage, though the exact nature of the reform is rather muddy due to the author's amateurish skills. The book was probably self-published. A 38-page "Argument" at the end presumably aims to underline the author's purpose in writing this self avowed "novel with a purpose." One interesting feature is that the story ends on a happy note, with two couples having a picnic.
