Dass die Einzelscheiben ein Glasmalereipatrimonium darstellen, das eine vertiefte Auseinandersetzung verdient, zeigen die in der Publikation veröffentlichten Beiträge, die den Gegenstand zum Beispiel unter terminologischen, entwicklungsgeschichtlichen, methodologischen und medientheoretischen Blickwinkeln betrachten. Die meisten Autoren sind Mitglieder der Nationalkomitees des Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi und international anerkannte Spezialisten auf dem Gebiet der Glasmalerei. The XXIVth International Colloquium of the Corpus Vitrearum in 2008 was devoted to the single stained-glass panel, a category that has long been overshadowed by monumental stained glass. The Colloquium more than lived up to expectations, turning the spotlight on this little-known area of our cultural heritage and revealing its full importance. The papers presented in this publication have stimulated discussion on questions of terminology, the distribution and historical development of these panels, and their architectural context. Certain authors, moreover, have approached the topic from a methodological point of view, taking into account current discourse in art history, particularly with regard to visuality and materiality. The majority of the authors are members of one of the fourteen national committees of the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi; they are stained-glass specialists of international renown.

Jahrhunderts mit sämtlichen Bereichen der Glaskunst. Sie erfanden traditionelle Methoden von Ausdruck und Technik gewissermaßen neu und modernisierten sie hinsichtlich Komposition, Stil und dem Einsatz diverser Materialien. Neben traditionellen Kunstformen wie Bleiglas und Hinterglasmalerei entdeckten sie andere innovative Prozesse, wie dalle de verre und Glasmalerei ohne Bleiruten. Inmitten dieses Panoramas werden weitere innovative Aspekte behandelt, von der Bedeutung des kreativen Prozesses, der in grafischen Arbeiten zum Ausdruck kommt, bis hin zu wirtschaftlichen Themen, die Einfluss auf die Baustellen hatten. Dieser Band bringt bislang unbekannte Dokumente ans Licht und bietet eine neue Sichtweise auf dieses kulturelle Erbe. Sur la base d'une recherche approfondie des abondantes sources d'archives produites par la Société et ses acteurs, cette publication propose une relecture de ce phénomène artistique majeur de la première moitié du XXe siècle, dans une perspective plurielle à la fois historique, sociologique, et de l'histoire des formes en art et en architecture. Elle vise à sortir le Groupe de Saint-Luc de son isolement pour l'inscrire au sein d'un large champ d'action européen au sein duquel s'entrecroisent les enjeux de l'architecture et de l'art moderne, de l'ouverture des milieux religieux à la modernité et des rapports entre l'Église et les artistes.
