Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispat…ched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). Hardcover. iv, 65, [1] leaves, printed from typescript on BYU-watermarked paper, recto only; 16 figures (maps and plans) in text; 28.5 cm. Contents: List of illustrations -- Introduction -- I. The Elephantine temple -- II. The Mount Gerizim and 'Araq el-Emir temples -- III. The Tell Arad and Tell el-Duweir (Lachish) temples -- I…V. The Leontopolis temple -- Conclusion -- Bibliography. -- Abstract, on final leaf: `This study has been designed to investigate the nature of six holy temples that are known to have existed outside of the well-known temples of Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. Early Judaism has long been noted for its sincere attempt at monotheism, and Jewish temples during the diaspora stimulated traditional Judaism toward strict monotheism even more. The discovery of Aramaic papyri in the twentieth century has begun to bring new light into this relatively darkened facet of Judaeo-diasporic institutions. Thus, upon examination of the Aramaic papyri found at Elephantine and numerous secondary sources, the author has found that the "Jewish Temples of the Diaspora" have many similarities that justified their existence. First, each colony associated with the diaspora temples display political, theological, and military connections (rivalry included) with Judaea. Second, the diaspora temples exhibit striking similarities in construction when compared to the temples on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem.' VG dark green fabrikoid binder's cloth.
