The Hebrew Publishing Company was founded in New York in 1901 by Joseph L. Werbelowsky and his son David Werbelowsky, and became part of the bedrock of early twentieth-century Jewish life and culture, publishing prayer books and religious texts as well as Yiddish novels, translations, and sheet music for the waves of Jewish immigrants to New York in the mid-late nineteenth century.
