Magnuson (1905-1989), Washington State Representative for King County, later U.S. Representative (1937-1944), and U.S. Senator (1944-1981), best remembered for his Fishery Conservation Acts, repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Acts in 1943 allowing Chinese immigration into the U.S. during World War II, and citizenship, and also worked to prevent supertankers from sailing through the Puget Sound. Revised edition of these "Aunt Sammy" cooking recipes drawn from the USDA radio broadcasts, and featuring the appearance of Chicken Chop Suey with Fried Noodles, first introduced in the broadcasts earlier that year as "A Chinese Dinner," and which served to instruct listeners in authentic traditional Chinese cooking techniques.
