Prima edizione
Condizione: VERY GOOD. Original book club edition. An omnibus edition containing three complete mystery novels - "The Case of the Buried Clock" by Erle Stanley Gardner, a classic Perry Mason novel; "Headlong for Murder" by Madeleine McCoy (under the Merlda Mace pseudonym) is the first novel featuring Christine Anderson, a young blonde Scandinavian from Minnesota, struggling to get by in New York City who isn't going to let anything get in the way of a promised vacation on the Connecticut coast; and "To Catch a Thief" by Craig Rice (under the Daphne Sanders pseudonym), the story of a man who turns to robbery to right the wrongs done by several wealthy stock market manipulators during the Depression. This is considered one of her best novels and is also among the most difficult to find. One of the pleasures of these omnibus volumes, which combine three very different works in one book, is the opportunity they create of discovering authors or novels which might be unknown to you. Published in compliance with the conservation orders of the War Compliance Board, it is surprising that the pages appear to be acid free, and are still white and supple, unlike many wartime books. 622 pp. Very good+ in tan cloth in a very good dust jacket (bookplate on front pastedown, some discoloration from the binding process on endpapers, a faint "old book" musty odor in a dustjacket with a few chips, some toning to the spine). These vintage book club editions are becoming hard-to-find in dustjacket.

Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. New York: The Dial Press, 1943. First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's deep grey cloth stamped in dark blue. Good. Lean to spine, boards slightly bowed with creasing to front board visible to cloth and front pastedown, rear pastedown visibly creased. Pages toned, foxing to textblock edge, preliminary and terminal pages. In a Good dust jacket with rubbing and wear, a large chip at the tail and to top of the rear panel near the spine. Not to be confused David Dodge's novel bearing the same title, which served for the basis of the Alfred Hitchcock film. Written under pseudonym by Craig Rice (born Georgiana Ann Randolph Craig), who was often referred to as the "Dorothy Parker of detective fiction.".
