The book records in text and illustration important and interesting events in the district from pre-European Maori days to the early settlers, through to modern times, as well as industrial, commercial, civic, transport and civic affairs. Illustrated throughout with some colour and many b/w photos and art, also maps, sketches, cartoons, diagrams.
