Los análisis de Schuman y Presser muestran una sucesión de investigaciones realizadas tanto de forma teórica como experimental sobre una parte representativa de la población de EE. UU. a lo largo de varios años. Presentan los diferentes resultados que es posible obtener en las encuestas sobre aspectos de carácter subjetivo, denominadas por ellos mismos preguntas de actitud ya sean sobre creencias o valores, entre otras cuestiones, dependiendo de la forma de redacción y el planteamiento de las preguntas, el tipo de enunciado utilizado o el contexto en que se encuadren, centrándose sobre todo en las preguntas relacionadas entre sí. A partir de esto se estudian los efectos particulares de esas variaciones en su aplicación en las encuestas de actitud y las consecuencias sobre los resultados.
