Hardbound. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Printing, so stated. Description: Includes a few b&w illustrations. This is part of the publisher's Great Events in World History series. In 1767 Philadelphia lawyer John Dickinson wrote a series of letters to his 'beloved countrymen'. He warned them of threats to American liberty hidden within recent English parliamentary acts. The letters, which Dickinson signed 'The Farmer', became enormously popular and were reprinted throughout the colonies. Dickinson based his protest on the rights guaranteed under British law and advocated conciliation rather than revolution and independence. Because of his conciliatory stand, Dickonson is not remembered as one of the great patriots, although his numerous writings during the revolutionary period had a significant impact. The author focuses on ''The Pennsylvania Farmer's'' little known contribution to the revolution. BINDING/CONDITION: red cloth; a Very Good book, with a Good+ dust jacket. index, bibliography, notes. 8vo (about 8'' to 9.5'' tall). 148 pages.
