Insgesamt aber gutes Exemplar. Mit hübscher gestochener Titelillustration. Sebastian Mutschelle: * 1749 in Allershausen bei Freising, + 28. November 1800. - M. besuchte das Jesuitengymnasium in München, trat 1765 in Landsberg ins Noviziat der Jesuiten ein. Nach dem zweijährigen Noviziat und der Ablegung der Gelübde wurde er zur weiteren Ausbildung nach München geschickt. Dort lehrte er als Magister in den Unterklassen des Gymnasiums Grammatik. Nach der Aufhebung des Ordens wurde er von der Diözese Freising übernommen und setzte seine Studien an der Universität Ingolstadt fort. Nach einer Erziehertätigkeit in der Familie des Hofsaalmeisters in München war er Wallfahrtsprediger in Altötting und Pfarrvikar in Mattighofen. 1779 wurde er zum Konsistorialrat in Freising ernannt und mit dem Schulkommissariat betraut. Er setzte die Schuldgeldfreiheit, eine Bildungsreform, eine Verbesserung der Lehrpläne und eine Verlebendigung des Unterrichts durch. In dieser Zeit arbeitete er an Sailers Gebetbuch mit, schrieb eine Geburts- und Jugendgeschichte Jesu und ein Leben Jesu. Diesem fügte er eine »Anweisung, die Evangelien mit Nutzen und Einsicht zu lesen« bei und gab ein Neues Testament in deutsch heraus. Er arbeitete sich ein in Kants Philosophie und wurde zu einem ihrer bedeutendsten Ausleger und Vertreter im katholischen Deutschland. 1793 hatte er wegen der Verdächtigung, einer unkirchlichen Gesinnung anzuhängen, seine Stellung in Freising aufgegeben und sich die Pfarrei Baumkirchen bei München geben lassen. Dort wirkte er als eifriger Seelsorger. 1799 wurde er als Professor für Moral und Pastoral an das Lyceum in München geholt. Er starb bereits am 28. November 1800. M. galt als einer der aufgeklärtesten Theologen Deutschlands. Mit Hilfe der kantischen Philosophie sucht er den seichten Rationalismus zu überwinden und eine hohe Auffassung von der Sittlichkeit zu begründen. (Quelle: Kirchenlexikon).
