71 vintage single weight keybook contact sheets, amounting to over 800 numbered images, from the 1958 French film. Much of the film is represented in minute detail, along with test shots, set design shots, and many candid moments from the set. Dramatic high-contrast images of starring actors, Demongeot answering telephones and in heated embraces, with several sheets capturing a formal dinner with the cast and crew, presumably the film's premiere. Most with 12 images per sheet, a few with 6-frame strips of 35mm film, each image with a series number, and all sheets credit at the top the photo laboratory Tele-Photo, film studio Cinedis, film title, and photographer Apoteker. Housed in a red paper 2-ring binder with French titles printed on the front. Several with brief numerical annotations on the verso. Noirish crime thriller based on Michel Lebrun's novel "Un Silence de Mort" (1957), starring Demongeot as Sylvie, married to Jean (Ronet), an executive at a fashion magazine. Jean's boss, André (Servais), obsesses over Sylvie, whose demure femininity can be fatal. An early film credit for still photographer Paul Apoteker, whose "Too Late for Love" (1959) is regarded as his first credited film. His dramatic execution would later be seen in Clouzot's "The Truth" (1960), Sautet's romance noir "Classe Tous Risques" (1960), and Woody Allen's "Love and Death" (1975). Demongeot and Ronet are amply represented throughout the collection, including a preliminary mockup of the poster art. Photos 8.25 x 10.25 inches, a few slightly variant sizes, hole-punched, and two with square cuts. Very Good plus overall, with curling and light foxing, creases to the binder.

Featured are over 300 smaller photographs elegantly presented in two "Lavis aquarelle" spiral bound notebooks with maroon faux leather front wrappers and affixed paper title labels, with 3 or 4 photographs to a page. One notebook bears a label on the front wrapper verso noting film lab Tele-Photo, production company Sopro Film (Cinedis), film title, and photographer P. Apoteker. Several larger photographs credit photographer Francois Pages, with his rubber stamp on the versos, featuring images of actress Demongeot as she models in fur coat for onlookers, including costar Maurice Ronet and director Cazeneuve. Several photos feature cast and crew at a release party. Brief annotations in manuscript pencil on the versos, two with rubber-stamped series number. Several photographs with annotations on the verso in manuscript ink and pencil, several with layout annotations on the recto, a few with rubber-stamped series number. Collection of 343 vintage black-and-white photographs from the set of the 1964 film, "That Man from Rio," here under the original French title, "L'homme de Rio." Most are rubber-stamped on the versos indicating film studio, Les Films Ariane, still photographer Trigo, Brazilian magazine "O Cruzeiro " and French film title, several with annotations in manuscript ink, also on the verso, several with Trigo's name in manuscript ink. Over 100 smaller photos bear white borders and credit for photographer Voinquel. Also included is an issue of French magazine "Telérama" (Sunday, August 18, 1963, No. 709), featuring cover and editorial on Belmondo and the film, an original Somarco accordion folder (dated 1963), and original mailing envelope addressed to Maryse Martres, Ariane Films (Champs-Élysées), from Télé-photo (Paris). Martres (Martin) was a prolific French actress who was later involved in press relations at Cinedis, a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Airman Adrien Dufourquet (Belmondo) is in Paris on shore leave, eager to see his Agnes (Dorléac). When he finally sees her, only briefly before she's kidnapped and held for ransom by a treasure-hungry family friend. A James Bond spoof, in the wake of Belmondo's swashbuckling success, "Cartouche" (1962, opposite Claudia Cardinale), with puzzle solving, murder in Brasilia, art thieves, and a pursuit to find sacred Amazon treasure. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay: Written Directly for the Screen (1965), and winner of a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film (1964). Members of the cast and crew are featured throughout the collection, including director de Brocca (who earlier worked under directors Claude Chabrol and François Truffaut), Belmondo, cameramen, and an extensive look at the scenery of Brazil and Paris. Boats racing, Belmondo dangling from a speeding car, and languid down times as cast and crew break for naps in the shade, photographer Trigo's often provocative angles capture the director in dimly lit, noirish scenarios, and a glimpse of the action-packed thrill-ride of shooting a Bond spoof with elements of MacGuyver. Coincidentally, photographer Voinquel's direct approach shows stills from a more casual standpoint, not without generous documentation of the crew behind the camera. Photographs 7 x 9.25 inches, and 3.5 x 5 inches, some varying slightly overall. Mailing envelope and folder each 10 x 12.5 inches. Photos Very Good Plus overall, moderate curling, several with bruises or insect wear at the edges, several with moderate dampstains. Envelope and folder Good, with short tears and similar dampstains. Magazine Very Good, wavy, brief toning.

Vintage program for a 1951 showing of Alain Resnais' 1950 short documentary film at the prestigious Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC). Text in French. IDHEC was founded in Paris during World War II in order to offer training for virtually every aspect of film production. It counted a veritable who's who of prominent filmmakers among its graduates, including Louis Malle, Claire Denis, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Volker Schlöndorff, Andrzej u awski, and Costa-Gavras, among many others. Resnais attended IDHEC for one year, from 1943-1944, training as a film editor, before leaving in 1945 for military service. "Gauguin" was part of an early series of documentary short films about artists created by Resnais between 1946 and 1953, preceded by "Van Gogh" (1949, winner of an Academy Award) and followed by "Guernica" (1950, in collaboration with Robert Hessens). 8.25 x 10.75 inches. Bifold. Very Good plus, lightly faded on the edges, with brief wear at the bottom right corner.
