O presente livro busca investigar se programas, políticas e ações de Educação em Direitos Humanos (EDH) reverberaram nas escolas, contribuindo para o fomento e a instalação de uma cultura de promoção, proteção, defesa e ampliação dos Direitos Humanos. Intenta apreender se a prática discursiva de diversidade e gênero contribui para a promoção de mudanças nas relações intersubjetivas que se dão no interior das escolas, criando, inclusive, espaços para instalação de uma cultura de Direitos Humanos. Para tanto, toma como fundamentos teóricos a Teoria do Reconhecimento de Axel Honneth (2003), a Teoria Crítica dos Direitos Humanos de Herrera Flores (2009), associados à perspectiva teórica de Educação em Direitos Humanos de Vera Candau (2014, 2008, 2007, 2002, 2000). Como aproximações teórico-metodológicas, lança mão da análise de discurso a partir de Fairclough (2001). O pano de fundo da obra se apoia na instituição do Estado Democrático de Direito, pois somente nele é possível implementar lutas sociais por efetivação de direitos. Com base nessas visões teóricas, esta obra possibilita apreender que políticas, programas e ações de Educação em Direitos Humanos no Estado de Pernambuco, entre 2007 e 2010, avançaram, embora de forma limitada devido à presença de obstáculos que dificultaram a sua concretização, entre os quais destacam-se a escassez e/ou insuficiência de formações e materiais pedagógicos; a rotatividade entre os técnicos das Gerências Regionais de Educação e escolas; a adoção do Programa de Modernização da Gestão Pública, cuja filosofia se confrontava com a política de EDH por ter como fundamento os princípios neoliberais da produtividade; precárias condições estruturais de trabalho nas escolas, além dos salários aviltantes dos trabalhadores em Educação. Por outro lado, várias escolas que adotaram a política de EDH com afinco, profissionalismo e compromisso, em que pesem as dificuldades, apresentaram resultados significativos, inclusive com premiações em mostras de experiências bem-sucedidas, em nível estadual e nacional. Assim, esta obra traz efetivas contribuições para a formação de muitos professores e professoras que, ao se apropriarem desta perspectiva teórico-metodológica, certamente se aproximarão de muitas realidades escolares brasileiras semelhantes àquelas que se constituíram objeto do presente estudo e quiçá da sociedade como um todo.
