Jean Oliver (illustratore). Illustrated juvenile fiction, published in 1938 for the New Reading Materials Program by the Board of Education of the City of New York under the auspices of the U.S. Works Project Administration. With a story by Alfred Sinks and color illustrations by Jean Oliver. Part of a New Deal initiative to support literacy programs in public elementary schools while giving work to artists and writers. 8vo, stapled printed wrappers, 64 pages, illustrated. A truly obscure, almost non-existent work for young readers, with only one listing, presumably for Book One, in the World Catalog. Despite the highly fragile and friable nature of the paper, the charming illustrations remain vibrant. Bumping and chipping to extremities, stapled spine partially detached. Creasing across front wrapper, 2" closed tear to rear wrapper. Open tears to both corners of most leaves.
