A portrait of Black urban America and the people, culture, and lifestyles of Harlem during the 1930s by member of the Photo League, Aaron Siskind. Fifty-two black and white photos, certainly show the community struggling during the Depression years. Includes perhaps the most well known photo from this period of Siskind's work: the two dancers in flamboyant action at the Savoy Ballroom in 1937. What gives this book extra values though are the stories from eight individuals based on oral interviews collected by the Federal Writers Project during the thirties. This is #78 from a total 100 copies of the deluxe edition signed by Siskind. The book is also inscribed to Dave by Siskind. Light rubbing to the dust jacket bottom edge, corners. In a nice slipcase that shows a bit of sunning to the edges. First edition. 8½" - 8½". Signed by author. book.
