Aggiungi al carrello4to: 3 pp. A bifolium. Good, on lightly-aged and creased paper. Thin strip of brown paper mount still adhering in inner margin of reverse of second leaf. Forty-six lines of text, clear and complete. A small square of paper, bearing Von Bulow's red wax seal (with clear impression) has been cut away from the second leaf and neatly… placed beneath the signature. Address, with circular Hull postmark in black ink, on reverse of second leaf. According to the 1911 edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica, von Bulow was 'distinguished for his admiration of England and English institutions', and this letter addressed to the Yarmouth shipping agent John Shelly, bears witness to that fact. He thanks Shelly for his 'kind & friendly acception [sic] of me and my errand. - You will have heard of my prosperity in Norwich, in having and find a friend I knew not, Mr. Youngman who with his family shewed me all possible attention and also was the Engine that did put all thing in motion'. He feels sure Shelly will 'rejoice in the good tidings I have to tell you with respect to Hull', where 'Mr Saunders' has collected more than £40 in St John's Church. 'I myself above £13. and we have received about £10 donation to the vessel - But after I preached here, a Gentleman came in to the vestry and put them all who were present in fire - an auxiliare Society was formed last night for the genl: Obj: of the Society'. Gives details of a resolution passed concerning '18 Collectors' and of another that 'the Vessel to meet the purpose should be between 50-55 tons or so about'. He asks Shelly to 'find out a Vessel in your nighbourhood [sic] - if you could put fire in Mr. Palmer he may take a good example and offer us such a Vessel for a moderate price'. Describes the required specifications, including that it 'is able to clear a lee shore'. Asks for the answer to be sent to him care of 'Mr. Greenwood in Hull'.
