Condizione: Fine in about-fine jacket. Condizione sovraccoperta: dj. First printing. Signed first edition of the novelization of Melissa Mathison's original screenplay by the World Fantasy Award-winning Kotzwinkle. Tender tale of a "blossoming neurotic" who meets a ten-million-year-old telekinetic botanist at just the right time in a young boy's life for this important relationship to flower. Based on Melissa Mathison's screenplay for Steven Spielberg's staggeringly successful film, Kotzwinkle's novel follows the basic plot outline laid down for it but also adds a considerable and original emphasis on the perspective of young Elliott's mother, denied more than a peripheral role in the film, and on the inner experience of the alien itself: the Extra-Terrestrial's sensitivities, psychic powers, affinities, and self-image. "I see him as this scorned Chaplinesque figure who at the same time is some sort of redeemer," the author later explained. Already an acclaimed children's writer and fantasist before the collaboration, Kotzwinkle took his novelization work seriously: "I understood Steven's dreams." 8.5'' x 5.5''. Original half blue cloth with blue boards, gilt-stamped spine. In original unclipped ($12.95) dust jacket, designed by Marie Salveson. 246, [2] pages. Signed by Kotzwinkle on title page. Very minor edgewear to jacket; small corner crease to rear flap. Flaps lightly toned.

PAPER BACK YELLOW. Condizione: Very Good-. Shooting script August 21,1981. Produced by Steven Spielberg & Kathleen Kennedy and directed by Steven Spielberg. Big metal staple binding. The film began shooting in September 1981, filming under the cover name A Boy's Life, as Spielberg did not want anyone to discover and plagiarize the plot. The actors had to agree to read the script behind closed doors, and everyone on set had to wear an ID card. General wear good condition . No bookplate, tiny amount of pencil writing on FEP (the size of a postage stamp). 113 pages, original printed wrappers, closed with three brass brads. A copy of the shooting script, dated Aug 21, 1981, but a reproduction of an original (originals are known to have the revision pages on colored paper which are not here nor are the their colored watermark stamps characteristic of Spielberg/Lucas scripts). Still a fully reproduced example of the original working script for the classic film. The film was shot mostly in cronological order to produce as convincing an emotional development as possible. The shoot completed in 61 days (4 days ahead of schedule). The film won four Oscars, and was nominated for Best Picture. DATE PUBLISHED: 1981 EDITION: 113.
