Few know the remarkable story of its origin in 1865- and its original mission- to protect our money. It was not until 1906, 5 years after President McKinley's assassination, that Congress authorized the use of public funds to protect the President. It wasn't till after 1951 after 2 would-be assassins burst into Blair House and fought a blazing gun battle with agents, that Congress permenently authorized and funded the Secret Service to protect the President. After 9/11 the complications of their service has increased.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
